This Weekend on Nantucket
May 4, 2007
Here are the best bets for the upcoming weekend.
One of the best bands you’ll see all year here, Spookie Daly Pride, is at the Box this Friday and Saturday night. Wacked and wild, they generally start about 11.Check out the music samples on their website.
At the Box tonight is a benefit for Nantucket Sports and Therapeutic Accessible Recreation (S.T.A.R.), from 7 to 11, with soca and Carribean music by Nantucket’s own Island Fusion. Rocky and the boys are mixing up special Bahama Mamas (sponsored by United Liquors) for the occasion; food by Megan Boyes Catering; prizes and auction. Connor Gifford made me promise I’d be there, and I will be. Tickets $40 at the door.
Two Cinco de Mayo parties that I know of: one is, of course, at Cinco, the other at the Rose & Crown.
Other live music this weekend: Blue Mood with Andy Bullington & Tom Stoddart at Even Keel on Friday; the Bob Lehman Trio at the Brant Point Grill on Friday and Saturday; and the NCMC Jazz Band Concert on Sunday.
The White Elephant Charity Brunch is Sunday from 11 to 2. It’s quite a spread, benefitting 3 local non-profits.
It’s the last weekend of the Short Play Festival.
May is Preservation Month on Nantucket, and Saturday night is the Opening Reception sponsored by the Nantucket Preservation Trust.
Look for a larger newsletter tomorrow.
