Call for submissions for the Nantucket Land Council’s “Love of the Land” exhibit. This year’s theme will be “Nantucket Wildflowers”, and artists are invited to scour conservation properties in search of wildflowers to paint, photograph, sketch, etc. The exhibit will take place at the Preservation Institute on Center Street and will be on display August 23 – 25th. Deadline for registration will be July 15th, so contact Elisabeth Hazell at the Nantucket Land Council, 228-2818, if interested in participating.
The island came together to benefit John Billings and his fight against cancer, raising over $50,000 in one night at Jetties Beach, Wednesday, June 20. Billy and Debba conducted the live auction; Sheppard’s Pie played the first part of the night; then Joshua Tree played the second part, volunteering their time on the same night they were to play at the Box. Annie Quatrano chef/owner of Bacchanalia, Floataway Cafe and Star Provisions, all in Atlanta, Georgia, came back to the island to help with the food.
Roy Flanders has offered to match, up to $1,000, any contribution of $50 or more made as a result of this newsletter. Make the check out to John Billings, notate it “Old Days Match”, and mail to me at POB 929, Nantucket.
