A Night in Seville

Cinco restaurant hosted “A Night in Seville” Gala dinner benefit for the Nantucket Arts Council on Thursday, September 20, 2007, raising a total of $16,575 for the Council. All wines at the dinner were provided by wine importer Jorge Ordonez, whom the world-renowned wine critic Robert Parker called one of the most influential wine personalities of the past twenty years. Jorge imports Spain’s biggest, deepest wine portfolio to America, and has almost single handedly changed the Spanish wine world, and especially the American view of Spanish wines.

Jorge presented and spoke about his wines to diners in this very rare American appearance. His best Spanish wines were paired with a special Cinco menu of Spanish dishes.

Michael Sturgis, owner of Cinco, donated the restaurant for the evening, publicity for the event, all food and kitchen staff and hosts, all at no charge, so that 100% of the proceeds went to the Nantucket Arts Council.

The evening began with a stroll through the tapas bars of ‘Seville’, sampling local Spanish delicacies al fresco on the Cinco patio, serenaded by the flamenco and classical guitar of Bob Walder.

Diners were served by celebrity sommeliers Craig Hanna of Topper’s, Matthew Hayes of 21 Federal, Panos Kakaviatos of The Chanticleer, Tanya McDonough of Straight Wharf Restaurant, Melissa Saunders of The Brant Point Grill, Leslie-Ann Sheppard of The Cellar, and Dan Thomas of the Red Lion Inn. The servers were Arts Council board member volunteers. The event was produced and chaired by Fifi Greenberg, First Vice President of the Arts Council.

Internationally acclaimed artist and island resident Kerry Hallam donated a painting for the auction entitled “A Night in Seville.”

Pictured is Michael Sturgis, owner of Cinco, presenting a check to Reggie Levine, President of the Nantucket Arts Council.

More photos of the event to follow in a few days.
