Coming Up on Nantucket 12/28/07

Here are the parties I know about for New Year’s Eve:

You’ll be all ready for bed if you go to Arno’s pajama party.

Haven’t heard of any special plans out at the Bamboo, but it’s New Year’s Eve there every night, isn’t it? 2 am closing.

Cambridge Street will have a midnight champagne toast, with live music from the Undergraduates, and open bar all for one admission price.

The Chicken Box has DJ Bri Guy and his video dance party, with a champagne toast at midnight (no cover).

At Fifty-Six Union, the theme is “Feather Fun” - top hats and tiara’s a plus. The second seating will include dancing at around 10:30 or 11 pm. Even if you don’t dine there, you’re welcome to come dance after 11. Open until 2 am.

LoLa 41 has two DJ’s, Devlin and Billy Desmond. No cover, 2 am closing. Always lively.

It’s the 2nd annual “Vegas Baby” party at the Rose & Crown, with prizes for the best Elvis costumes. No cover, DJ Mikee, free champagne toast at midnight, costumes not required. 2 am closing.

The Starlight will have New Year’s Eve at Times Square on their big screen. 2 am closing,

It’s a masquerade dinner at Water Street, with masks and party favors, or bring your own.

See the Food & Wine section for all restaurants open over the holidays.

Nantucket Food & Wine

The Cellar has been approved by the Selectmen for a seasonal all alcoholic license, an upgrade from their wines and beer license.

The manager of the Jared Coffin House, Jim Storey, has pledged to the Board of Selectmen that the restaurant will be open in April 2008 and will serve dinner 7 nights a week.

Bartlett’s Farm will be selling about 25 bulk items from B.J.’s Wholesale Club at prices slightly higher than B.J.’s, (but expected to be less expensive than other island prices), when they reopen on January 8. If the response is good, the inventory will be expanded. The full story at the Independent.

Following is a list of all restaurants open over New Year’s. Thank you to Nantucket Visitor Services, and especially David Sharpe, for providing the restaurant list, updated weekly. And don’t forget for guest room availability for your friends showing up at the last minute, call Visitor Services at 228-0925.

Nantucket Restaurant News

After the lack of any open restaurants last Christmas, there are at least a few to choose from this season. I know some people worked hard on this over the past year, and lest I leave anyone out who did, thank you for your work, and thank you to the establishments who have risen to the occasion. It is the visitors to the island who will appreciate all of you the most.
