Nantucket Restaurant News

Look for a new fall menu on Thursday at American Seasons, and their new Crab Apple house infused vodka.

The Brant Point Grill is offering a $21 wine list to accompany the $21 lunches.

Cambridge Street will update to their fall menu starting the week of 9/22, with new warming dishes as well as old favorites, and with new fall prices. Dollar Rib night is every Thursday, and Cambridge Street features a new local artist on the walls every Wednedsay.

The Boston Herald reviewed the Harbor Wok on Friday, July 25. “Owners Pui and Carol Chan also own The Wok restaurant in Wellesley. Their menu of Americanized Cantonese favorites isn’t particularly authentic – but it’s fresh, flavorful and (for this upper-crust summer spot) surprisingly affordable…The restaurant seems to be popular with a youthful clientele happy to share a scorpion bowl or two before supper, sans mom and dad.”

The Rose & Crown launches their 2 for 1 dinner entrees today, running Monday thru Thursday all fall and winter. $3 BlueMoon Drafts also start today, running all fall and winter 7 days a week. Monday is Poker Night at 7; Tuesday Trivia night at 8; Wednesday 80′s video dance party; Thursday Karaoke at 10; Friday Retro Dance party at 10; and Saturday Top 40′s dance party.

Sfoglia in New York was named ‘The Restaurant of the Week(end)’ on September 12 by the New York Observer, which had already named it #5 in the Top 10 Greenmarket Restaurants. Title: “Nantucket native brings seasonal Italian to the Upper East Side, minus, thankfully, the salmon-colored pants.” (Although Ron is not a native.) Quotes: “…sweet, ambitious little ristorante…Willful blondes and their sharp-suited catches dine on fare that is equally urban and self-assured…It’s the primi pasta course that steals the show with its surprising combinations of market-fresh ingredients.”

Slip 14 is open for lunch Friday – Sunday, and dinner Friday and Saturday until October 11.

The Boston Herald reviewed the Summer House on Friday, July 25. “The Summer House restaurant has long been a popular destination for drinks and dinner. Never more so now that Marc Orfaly is in the kitchen . . . Orfaly, the Boston-based chef and owner of Pigalle and Marco Cucina Romana, has choreographed a menu of high-end vacation fare simultaneously casual and sophisticated. . . The linguine alle littlenecks is one of the tastiest interpretations of this classic pasta I’ve ever had…There’s nothing more relaxing than the view from The Summer House restaurant porch – the flower beds on the lawn, the green Adirondack chairs and the white, arched entryway framing the breaking waves in the distance.”

Water Street is offering 3 for $35 from its bar menu.

Oliver Diamond

As part of The Nantucket Arts Festival, Mark Carapezza presented the Nantucket-red carpet premiere of “Detention with Oliver Diamond” on Friday night, September 5th at the Preservation Institute, upstairs at 11 Centre Street, with live music by Four Easy Payments. The project involved over 300 local elementary, middle and high schools students and adults. “Detention with Oliver Diamond” celebrates the raw talents of local children with the Nantucket community and landscape as backdrop. For the past two years, Mark, with help of The Community Network for Children, The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, The Nantucket Lighthouse School, The Nantucket New School, and The Nantucket Theater Workshop, offered after school classes focused on writing, directing, acting, and the production of television. The result of these classes are showcased in the final product as hilarious and sometimes thought provoking skits and commercials.
