The Maria Mitchell Association presented “What’s Your Sign? Zodiac Fundraiser” on Saturday, April 5, at the Rose & Crown with music by DJ Bri Guy, tarot card readings, raffle and dancing. Photographs by Gene Mahon, assisted by Amanda Morgan.

The 5th Annual Ms. Mantucket Charity Pageant took place on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Atlantic Cafe, hosted by Jamie Ranney and Chris Morris. The Pageant benefitted the Rotary Club of Nantucket Scholarship Fund. Contestants were Izzy Stover, Bob Gardner, Homer Ray, Normand Berthelette, Jeff Horner, Chris Brantley, Nick Duarte, Jerry Welch, Michael Allen, Whitey Willauer, George Hughes, and Perry Butler.

The Nantucket Style Council is a group of four Nantucket business owners dedicated to the nurture and celebration of original style. For this group, style is a reflection of personality and spirit, not about labels or expense.

Azra Wilmot-Smith of Legends, Kimberly Pizzitola of Blu, Cheryl Fudge of Nantucket Stock Exchange, and Elisabeth English of currentVintage have joined together to promote creativity in personal style, in the hope of making fashion more fun and accessible. To that end, the NSC will produce a series of events, workshops, and trunk shows this season, such as “Shop in Your Own Closet” and “It’s Easy Being Green”.

In addition, the NSC will recognize the Island’s most stylish in weekly social photos through Mahon About Town, as well as contribute a monthly column to N Magazine. The NSC plans to partner with Sustainable Nantucket this season in a benefit fashion show, recognizing that sustaining Nantucket is always in style.

“Style Council Faves @ “4″, in order of appearance: Gordon McGregor and Susan McGinnis, Carl Keller (with Chris Fuller), Gabrielle Gould and Suzi Kraft, Hadley St. John (with Mai Linh Norton), Dane Decarlo and Christy Cure.

Now in its fourth year, The White Elephant’s Brant Point Grill Charity Brunch raised $5,549 for local Nantucket non-profits on Sunday, April 13. The entire brunch was donated by the Brant Point Grill - diners then donated to the charity of their choice. The Nantucket Education Trust received $1,253, Habitat for Humanity $1,423, and the Nantucket Arts Council $2,873.
