Friday (6th): Earth is at its farthest from the Sun for the year – 3 percent farther (about 3 million miles) than at perihelion in January.

Saturday (7th): At twilight, bright Venus appears about equally distant from Saturn (to its right) and Regulus (to its upper left).

Monday (9th): Before dawn, look to the eastern sky for the waning Moon with fiery yellow-orange Mars to its lower right. Twice as far below Mars is a dimmer fire-colored star, Alpha Ceti. The Pleiades is far to their lower left.

A Party for Lili’s Mom

Lili Baker threw a party for her mother Marjorie on June 11th at the Yacht Club. Marjorie was one of the first people I met on Nantucket, at the Opera house. And no matter what table she sat at over all those years, it always seemed to be having the most fun in the restaurant.
