The Nantucket Rotary Club presents ‘Blazing Paddles’ Dinner and Auction, Saturday, May 3 at 6 pm at Cisco Brewery. $75 includes beer, wine and a special cocktail, dinner, live and silent auction. Entertainment by 4 EZ Payments. Details and ticket sales.

The Nantucket Star Spring Gala: Night under the Caribbean STARS takes place Saturday, May 3, 7 to 10 pm at the Chicken Box. Details.

The Community Network for Children Fifth Annual Nantucket Advocate for Children’s Awards Evening is Sunday, May 4, 5:00 pm at the White Elephant. Photo from last year’s event on left. Details.

The Hospital Health Fair, with medical consultations, free screenings, and educational presentations is this Saturday, May 3, 8 to 11 am at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.


NIGHTLIFE & CONCERTS

Holly Near and emma’s revolution at the Unitarian Church, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Holly Near, activist, singer, and recording artist, with opening act emma’s revolution, a grassroots activist duo with Pat Humphries and Sandy Opatow. When Worlds Collide is a new musical by teacher Jim Sulzer performed by fifth-grade students, presented by the Nantucket New School. Monday, May 5, 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 11 a.m., and and Wednesday, May 7, 6:30 p.m. Details.

The Nantucket Community Jazz Band Concert presents ‘Time for a Jazz Break’ : Jazz, pop, rock and soul. Suggested donation $10, or $5 for seniors. Students and children free. Sunday, May 4, 4:00 pm at the Summer Street Church.

The Peacheaters, an Allman Brothers cover band, are at the Box Friday and Saturday night.

At the Rose & Crown, it’s Poker Night on Monday’s, Trivia Quiz Night every Tuesday (at 7 pm), Karaoke on Thursday (9 pm), and DJ Bri Guy on Fridays and Saturdays.


THEATER AND PERFORMANCE

The Tanglewood Marionettes perform ‘Cinderella’ on Saturday, May 3, with two shows: 10:30 and 11:30 am at Bennett Hall, presented by the Nantucket Arts Council. Details. Independent story.

At TWN’s Potluck Armchair Theatre, Amanda Torchia directs ‘Bang, Bang, You’re Dead’ by William Mastrosimone. Details.

Doubt, A Parable, a play by John Patrick Shanley, continues its run at the Methodist Church. The performance is directed by Michael Feeney, and features Ciaran Byrne, Pam Murphy, Callahan Keever, and Tina Hoskins. Curtain at 7:30. HELD OVER ONE MORE WEEK AFTER THIS.
