The island band You Scream I Scream’s music video “Dog” has been viewed 68,155 times since it made its debut on YouTube on September 24.

Nantucket Community News

The Nantucket Suicide Prevention Coalition has been recognized as the best in Massachusetts, and will receive an award as such at the State House on February 8th. Those named in the award are Michael Kopko, John Buckey, Jenny Garneau and Peter Swensen. Peter credits the staff at Family and Children’s Services as equally due the award.

The 16th annual Festival of Trees closes on January 4, 2010. Open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, December 26-28, 1-4 P.M., and again on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, January 2-4, 2010, 1-4 P.M. The Whaling Museum will be closed from January 5 through February 12, and will reopen on Saturday, February 13, 2010, and remain open every Saturday and Sunday through April 18, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The museum will also be open on Presidents Day, Monday, February 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Museum Shop, 11 Broad Street, is closed for the season.

Temporary census jobs for the 2010 census are available, and applications are being taken now. Hours are flexible hours, and up to 40 hours a week are available with mileage reimbursement. Call 1-866-861-2010 to schedule testing.

Christmas Lights Contest

Here’s an update on the Christmas Lighting Contest, sponsored by Nantucket Visitor Services. The video is by Geno Geng, and is also in rotation on Comcast Channel 17.

The judges will go out either Monday or Tuesday night, and the winners will be announced at the Red Ticket Drawing at 3pm on Thursday 12/24. The three categories are: Brightest Lights, Most Creative and Best Nantucket Themed. The winners will win “Light Themed Prizes.”
