Pick up registration forms at Visitor Services (25 Federal Street) and the Chamber of Commerce (upstairs at Zero Main Street) for the Fifth Annual Christmas Light Decorating Contest, open to all island residences. The deadline to register is Friday, December 17 at noon. Home exteriors will be judged by Brightest Lights, Most Creative, and Best Nantucket Themed, with winners receiving “Light” inspired prizes. Judging will take place between Monday, December 20 and Wednesday, December 22. The winners will be announced at the Chamber’s Red Ticket Holiday Drawing on Christmas Eve. A Safe Place 5th Annual “Warming Up Nantucket Families” Holiday Drive runs through December 20th, when ASP will collect canned and non-perishable food items for emergency situations when the Food Pantry is not available. Food may be dropped off in designated boxes at Grand Union, Stop & Shop, Annye’s or A Safe Place’s Office (24 Amelia Drive). Information: A Safe Place at 508-228-0561.

Mary Kay Condon is the December winner of the Dreamland Islander WIN A SEAT Raffle, and will receive a plaque with the name of her choice on one of the 335 seats in the main theater of the new Dreamland. Raffle tickets are $10 or 3 for $25 for the next drawing on January 3rd – Dreamland office, Nalu, Nantucket Gourmet, Bookworks and The Hub. The Nantucket Historical Association will host a trip to Boston and the Museum of Fine Arts via a private coach bus on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, hosted by Nina and Bob Hellman. The Museum will present a guided tour of the new Art of the Americas Wing with more than 5,000 works from the Americas that date from ca. 900 B.C. up to the 1970s. A luncheon in a private dining room follows at Brasserie Jo in the Colonnade Boston Hotel; then a one-hour tour and tasting at the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery. $115 for NHA members; $140, nonmembers. Habitat for Humanity Nantucket has received a building permit for the newest Habitat house at 5 Pochick Ave, and work has begun, and help is needed. Habitat is now accepting applications from prospective homeowners for this new home. The NHS Students for Sustainability presents “NHS Turbine Talk”, a public forum about the wind turbine put on by students of NHS with Q&A. Thursday December 16th at 6pm in the Large Group Instruction Room of the High School.
